Overview
A cab operator needed to move off phone-and-spreadsheet dispatch onto a single platform that customers, vendors, and an internal admin team could all rely on in real time. The hard part wasn't any one screen — it was keeping three different audiences looking at the same live truth at the same instant.
We built it as a Laravel backend serving a customer app, a vendor app, and an admin dashboard, with Socket.io carrying live position and status updates so a ride looked identical from every angle.
Key features
- Customer app: book by route, time, and cab type with live tracking and ride history
- Vendor app: fleet, booking, and driver-location management with profile controls
- Admin dashboard: manage users, vendors, cabs, and view revenue and usage statistics
- In-app payments via Razorpay with secure checkout
- Google Maps integration for routing and live position
- Push, SMS, and email notifications across the ride lifecycle
Architecture
~/projects/cab-management-system/architecture.md
Laravel REST API with Socket.io for bidirectional real-time communication; Redis for caching, sessions, and message queuing; MySQL on RDS; hosted on AWS EC2/S3 with AWS SES for transactional email.
What I did
- Designed and developed the system's multiple components — user app, vendor app, and admin dashboard
- Built the real-time tracking layer over Socket.io with Google Maps integration
- Integrated Razorpay for secure in-app payments
- Set up Redis for caching, sessions, and message queuing, and AWS hosting (EC2/RDS/S3/SES)
